Erie Canal Day 3

On the wall just outside lock 19.
Somehow we all have matching tan lines...lol

The water depth from our the bottom of our keel to the bottom of the lock...before & after...quite the rise

Hang on up there Kelly....it is a long way up !

the calm after the fog lifted

The glassy reflection of the water in the trees at points made it difficult to see that a corner was coming.

Cap'n Kelly rides again :)

The train tracks run beside the Erie Canal. We saw many trains. If we blew our horn they blew theirs...thus Kyle kept himself amused.

It was 62 F early this morning and we saw the first McD's in weeks...welcome back to the north.

Our friends, and saviours, Keith & Nancy on Steel Revival.

The wall of fog that hit early in the morning.

The fog setting in as we entered our first lock of the day.

Lucky charms they are magically delicious...lol
As we cross Oneida lake on Sunday afternoon I am writing yesterdays blog.
We tied up at the lock last night as no marinas in the area could handle our depth...so know wifi.
The day started fine but as we approached the first lock the fog started to settle in.
With a boat that needs 7 feet under it to float, being in the narrow and shallow Erie Canal and fog do not mix.
We locked thru our first lock of the day then quickly lost site of where the buoys should be.
Bump, stop, mud.....thank goodness our friends, Keith & Nancy in their little tug Steel Revival, where beside us. We threw them a line and they pulled us back on track. We then let them take the lead to watch the depth and proceeded slowly up the river.
By the time we locked thru the next lock the fog lifted and the water became like glass. The rest of the day was, thankfully, uneventful.
We are in the middle of Oneida lake now headed for a little town called Brewerston. We will stay there tonight, do laundry, shop etc. Tomorrow we will make the turn up into the Oswego Canal and dock at there to re-mast Tuesday. ...God willing :)
Happy Sunday :) Love and miss y'all !
