Atlantic City NJ to New York NY

We left at 6 am. The winds were light at 10 knots and the seas very calm. As we passed all kinds of little fishing boats kyle thru the lines out.... no luck yet...I am still on Wifi in the Ocean :)
There were warnings this morning of thunderstorms this afternoon. It is sunny, calm and clear now. We are hoping it stays ..it is noon now.
At 9 am 2 dolphins jumped up right beside the boat, went under and around it. I am hoping that means the storms will miss us...lol.
Going out to BBQ lunch now since the water is so calm at the moment. Will blog more tonight in NY....we are hoping to go to see the Statute of Liberty and up the Empire State building tomorrow...we will be docking right by Ellis Island and weather permitting coming into New York habour under sail by Lady Liberty....
....
We are safely at dock. I can see the Empire State building all lit up across the Hudson River.
About 3 pm the radio said tornado possibilities, severe line of thunderstorms etc...we looked at te chart and the only safe habour was one we passed about an hour ago....so we turned around and put the petal to the metal....well yes I know it's a sail boat but the storm was coming from NY so we out ran it ....we anchored and waited out the storm ...took about an hour...
The skies cleared again and the rest of the journey was pleasant.
As we rounded into Long Island Sound we saw fireworks at Coney Island ! Side stepping the huge freighters in the sound we sailed into New York and under the Manhattan Bridge ( as Kyle says you have to enter the Hudson under sail just like Henry Hudson did or it doesn't count)
We passed Lady Liberty and Ellis Island. We now sit safely docked at Shipyard Marina about a mile up river from Ellis island and directly across the river from the Empire State Building.
There is a ferry on the next dock that runs every 15 minutes across the river so tomorrow I play tourist !! I promised the kid a trip up Empire and a daytime view of the Statute of Liberty.Kyle wants to go the the boat store ...go figure ..and a good restuarant ( one of his food network guys ones ) And of course mamma needs a new pair of shoes...LOL...I love New York !!!
Oh the scrap book will be overflowing with pics :) We are booked here 2 nights and then up the Hudson River, demast at Troy and thru the Erie Canal ...should be a summer to remember.
Life is shorter than you think ..leave no regrets !
